LAS CRUCES, NM (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — The acquisition of land for a new civic center being planned for Las Cruces is pending on the city which needs to approve a construction contract before the land can be annexed, the Las Cruces Sun-Times reported.
"Due to contractual obligations within the lease agreement between the city and (New Mexico State University), it is my understanding that the city must execute the construction contract prior to the annexation request going to the City Council," said Cheryl Rodriguez, development services administrator for the city of Las Cruces.
The delay may only be a minor one as the city may retain a construction firm as early as October. This may also prove to be a timely development for Global Spectrum, who are in negotiations with the city over managing the new facility. According to the Sun-Times, those negotiations may be hammered out as early as September, thereby giving Global Spectrum considerable opportunity to share their experience on the design of the new Civic Center.
Final approval for the project is expected by December 22nd. – CelebrityAccess Staff Writers
