CHULA VISTA, CA (CelebrityAccess) — A man in his 50s died in police custody after attending a concert by the Dead & Co. concert at Sleep Train Amphitheater on Wednesday night.
According to local ABC affiliate KGTV, the incident occurred at approximately 7:30 p.m. when amphitheater security discovered a man, described as white and heavyset, who appeared to be intoxicated at the venue. Venue security attempted to escort the man out after he could not produce a ticket, but were forced to restrain him after he attempted to flee. Chula Vista police officers who assisted in restraining the man, described him as “screaming incoherently and acting irrationally” in a subsequent news release.
Chula Vista police said that the after the man was restrained following two brief struggles, he was evaluated by medical personnel, and then arrested for public intoxication. A press statement from the Chula Vista police said that the man appeared to pass out and then stop breathing while being processed at the police station and was declared deceased at about 9:15 p.m.
The Medical Examiner was notified and will conduct an examination to determine the cause of death and the police department has launched an investigation into the death. – Staff Writers
