COSTA MESA (CelebrityAccess Staff Writers) — The cost of the Orange County Performing Arts Center is going to be a little more than they first thought, the OC Register reported.
The expansion to the center had been expected to cost 200 million dollars but the most recent projection is tacking on another 25-30 million dollars onto that, a 12-13 percent increase in the end cost.
The additional costs have been blamed on the rising cost of construction materials, particularly steel and concrete along with additional overtime pay for construction workers to ensure a timely opening.
"Overages of this size are not uncommon in projects of this complexity," the chairman of the center's board of directors Michael Gordon told the Register. "We will continue to do everything we can to control expenses wherever possible without impacting the quality of the venues."
