Pillar Shows Morrissey's Concert Video in 10 Theaters

(CelebrityAccess MediaWire) —

Pillar Entertainment had a successful theatrical release and digital cinema world premier of Morrissey’s “Who Put the ‘M’ In Manchester?” concert DVD. The content was shown in high definition and employed Dolby 5.1 Digital Surround Sound to enhance the audience experience. These theatrical screenings provided Morrissey’s record label, Sanctuary / Attack Records, with a “release event” for the concert DVD, which arrived in retail stores on March 29. The version presented to theatres included theatre-exclusive footage of Morrissey performing The Smiths’ classic “How Soon Is Now?” from the 2004 Reading Music Festival.

“We are delighted to work directly with Sanctuary Records to deliver the Morrissey concert, the first of what we hope will be many such digital events” said Michael J. St. Clair, Pillar’s president. “With so much Dual Disc and DVD content being created these days, we feel the big screen is a natural place to showcase an artist’s talent.”

“Sanctuary partnered with Pillar Entertainment because their exceptional technology and diverse theatre network gave us the opportunity to create an event for the release of Morrissey’s first live DVD,” said Madelyn Scarpulla, Sanctuary’s senior vice president of Marketing. “Pillar offered us the ability to hand-pick markets and customize promotions, including partnering with radio and retail, to maximize the visibility of the DVD and accompanying live CD Live At Earls Court.”

The Pillar presentation of “Who Put the ‘M’ in Manchester?” played to packed theatres in seven cities across the country including New York (two screens sold out), Boston (sold out), Washington, DC, Detroit, Chicago (sold out), San Diego and Los Angeles (sold out). This Pillar presentation was delivered via the Access Integrated Technologies digital content delivery system, which also provided back office management services. –Bob Grossweiner and Jane Cohen
