Soulja Boy Facing Felony Firearms Charges

LOS ANGELES (CelebrityAccess) — Rapper Soulja Boy is facing a number of criminal charges, including illegal possession of firearms, in the wake of his arrest in December last year.

According to the Los Angeles Times, the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office has charged Soulja Boy, whose real name is DeAndre Cortez Way, with felony possession of an assault weapon, a “Mini Draco AR-IS,” and possession of a firearm in violation of probation, a .45-caliber Glock 21 pistol.

Way has also been charged with one misdemeanor count of receiving stolen property, as the Glock was reported stolen from a Huntington Beach Police Department vehicle, officials said. Police officials did not state why they were at his home on December 15th, or what prompted the search of the residence.

Way was arrested at his home on Dec. 15th after police reported finding the firearms there. He was previously arrested in 2011 on felony drug and weapons charges after a traffic stop in Georgia and then again in California in 2014 after being found with a concealed weapon during a traffic stop.

Frank Mateljan, a spokesman for the Los Angeles city attorney’s office told the Los Angeles Times that Way was convicted of carrying a loaded firearm in a vehicle and sentenced to two years probation in the second incident.

He faces up to four years in prison on the new charges, if convicted. He plead not guilty on Monday in Los Angeles County Superior Court, the Times said. – Staff Writers
