‘War Of The Worlds’ Comes To The U.K.

(CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — American producer Jeff Wayne is planning to take his hit 1970s musical album “The War of the Worlds” on the road next year as a full-live production.

CCE will promote the tour, putting on 13 dates in the U.K. beginning April 13.

Moody Blues frontman Justin Hayward will feature in the project, which is based on the H.G. Wells’ novel of the same name. Hayward performed on the original recording, along with its narrator Richard Burton, David Essex and Phil Lynott, according to Billboard.

After its release in June 1978, the double album initially spent 260 consecutive weeks in the U.K. albums chart. The release this summer of the Steven Spielberg movie-version helped generate a revival in interest for Wayne’s earlier recording.

Sony BMG scored another top-ten U.K. hit with the record when its Columbia label reissued the set in June as a remastered hybrid CD/SACD edition. Worldwide, the record has shifted about 13 million copies, according to Sony BMG. –by CelebrityAccess Staff Writers
