CHICAGO, IL (CelebrityAccess) – SPACE, the renowned live music hall and recording studio in Evanston just minutes north of Chicago, will celebrate 10 years of live music this summer with its Out of Space concert series.
Scheduled to take place between June 21–Aug. 26 in some of the city’s most beloved locations, headliners include Grammy-winning singer and Chicago civil rights icon Mavis Staples, alt-rock luminaries Dinsoaur Jr., indie rockers The New Pornographers, Americana acts Shovels & Rope and The Lone Bellow, Grammy-winning New Orleans group Rebirth Brass Band, and Brit rapper Slick Rick with plenty more names to come.
“It’s been really exciting to watch SPACE evolve over the last 10 years,” says Jake Samuels, Talent Buyer for SPACE and Thalia Hall, who also serves as Out of Space’s Executive Director. “Presenting true legends of their craft alongside performers just starting their careers has been incredible to see, and reaffirming that we can be a club that escapes easy genre tags. Out of Space is a bucket list event for us; a chance to step outside of the 4 walls of SPACE and bring truly top-tier performers to outdoor situations that are uniquely Evanston. The acts we’re presenting this summer all have roots at SPACE whether they know it or not. Either they played the club in their early days or were highly influential to music we love and present regularly.”
“Out of Space allows us to paint with a bigger brush, and present talent that may not fit in the confines of SPACE,” Samuels continues. “It’s also a chance to spotlight the changes Evanston has undergone since we began doing shows in 2008. This is a vibrant, diverse town that has consistently supported our venue and the acts that we have booked to play here. We’d like to return the favor by bringing a true summer experience to Evanston that we don’t think has really existed here in the past; music-focused outdoor events that rival anything happening in neighboring towns.”
Over the past decade, SPACE has become known for hosting both seated and standing-room-only shows across a variety of genres from folk to rock to jazz and beyond. The venue has welcomed thousands of local and national touring acts to their stage, including Dr. John, Lucinda Williams, Bob Mould, and Alabama Shakes, St. Paul & The Broken Bones, the Lumineers, Sturgill Simpson, Gary Clark Jr., the Strumbellas, and countless others.
