NEW YORK (CelebrityAccess) — Escape to Margaritaville, a jukebox Broadway musical featuring the music of Jimmy Buffett, is closing after a four month run.

According to the New York Times, the production will close on July 1st after a run of 29 previews and 124 regular performances.

The production debuted at the La Jolla Playhouse in San Diego, before making the jump to B’Way, where it was met by largely unfavorable reviews, and was completely shut out by this year’s Tony Awards.

Directed by Peter Ashley, the musical features Paul Alexader Nolan, Alison Luff, Lisa Howard, and Eric Peterson among others.

Per the Times, despite occassional visits by Buffett himself, the show struggled with attendance, and in the final week of May, reported playing to just 56% capacity.

According to a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, “Margaritaville” costs topped 15 million, but has failed to recoup.

Still, there are some bright spots for the production. Following its closure in July, the show will hit the road for a national tour, starting at the Providence Performing Arts Center in Providence, RI in October, the Times reported.
