CUPERTINO CA (CelebrityAccess) — Apple has finally unveiled the details of their long-rumored television streaming service, Apple TV Plus.

At a kick-off event on Monday at the Steve Jobs Theater, Apple CEO Tim Cook showed off the new service, teased its content lineup and showcased the updated Apple TV app which will serve said content.

As with many of Apple’s rivals in the streaming video world, Apple will be investing heavily in original content and has attracted some big names, including director Steven Spielberg to create programming for its launch. Spielberg, who appeared at the event, announced plans to revive his anthology series “Amazing Tales” on Apple’s new service.

Apple is expected to spend as much as $2 billion on original content for Apple TV Plus in its first year.

Apple TV Plus, also features more than 100,000 movies in its catalog, allowing users to buy or rent titles. Apple TV Plus users will also have access to ala carte television programming, allowing users to subscribe to individual channels and networks, including premium channels such as HBO and Starz, that will be delivered commercial free.

As well, the service will integrate other streaming services into the app, allowing users to stream content from providers such as Hulu and Amazon. However, at least for now, Netflix does not appear to be participating.

Apple TV Plus will debut in Autumn 2019 and Apple has yet to disclose a price for the service.
