Daytrotter Closes Iowa Recording Studio, Moves to Atlanta

DAVENPORT, IA (CelebrityAccess) – Famed Iowa venue space and recording studio Daytrotter has closed its doors and is relocating to Atlanta, according to the Quad-City Times.

Daytrotter is reportedly moving to Atlanta to be closer to its partner, Paste Magazine. The online publication hosts Daytrotter’s catalog of more than 7,000 band sessions.

The studio was first located in downtown Rock Island but moved to downtown Davenport in 2016. After it relocated, Daytrotter started to host live concerts, but unfortunately, the model never proved economically viable and the live shows seized by late May 2018.

In explaining the move, Matt Lundberg, senior vice president of Daytrotter’s majority owner and online music retailer Wolfgang’s Vault, said: “Our lease was up, and the economics of the space wasn’t working for us. We knew we had to do something. We were losing money every time we were using it.”

Since its launch in 2006, everyone from Wilco, The National, Vampire Weekend, Death Cab For Cutie, Bon Iver and Alabama Shakes to Mumford & Sons, Macy Gray Jimmy Cliff, Counting Crows, Brandi Carlile and Kris Kristofferson have recorded at Daytrotter.

The Atlanta venue is expected to open by July 1.
