STOCKHOLM (CelebrityAccess) – A Swedish prosecutor has charged rapper A$AP Rocky with assault over a fight in Stockholm last month, according to The Associated Press.
Rocky, a platinum-selling, Grammy-nominated artist whose real name is Rakim Mayers, has been in custody since July 3 as authorities were busy investigating the altercation he was allegedly involved in on June 30th.
While videos published on social media appear to show a person being violently thrown onto the ground by Rocky, the rapper’s defense lawyer maintains that it was self-defense.
Prosecutor Daniel Suneson said in a statement Thursday (July 25) that he filed charges against the artist and two others “suspected of assault causing actual bodily harm, having come to the conclusion that the events in question constitute a crime and despite claims of self-defense and provocation.”
The three suspects will remain in custody until trial, according to AP.
The high-profile case has drawn the attention of celebrities including A$AP Ferg, Post Malone, Miguel, Lil Yachty, Justin Bieber, Shawn Mendes, Tyga, Sean “Diddy” Combs, Nicki Minaj, Kim Kardashian West and Kanye West, as well as U.S. President Donald Trump.
The Stockholm District Court reportedly plans to announce next week when the trial will take place.
