NOVA SCOTIA, Canada (CelebrityAccess) — Canadian country music star George Canyon will take a run at politics as he runs for election as the Conservative candidate in the riding of Central Nova.
Canyon, who is a native of Nova Scotia, is an award-winning artist who first made a name for himself on the televised talent show Nashville Star but has since gone on to a successful career, winning multiple Canadian Country Music Association, East Coast Music, and Juno Awards.
He’s also garnered a reputation for social advocacy, including volunteer honors from Diabetes Canada for his work to raise awareness about diabetes research.
“Excited doesn’t even begin to describe what I’m feeling today as I become the Conservative candidate for Central Nova,” said George Canyon in a press statement. “I believe that if you work hard, you should be able to buy a home, save for retirement, and care for your children and aging parents, and I want to be part of a team that understands that. After all, it’s hard enough to get ahead without the government making it harder. Over the next nine weeks, I’m going to wear the soles out of my boots as I work hard to show people here the type of representative and advocate I will be for them.”
According to the Nova Scotia Chronicle Herald Canyon previously took a run at earning the Conservative nomination for Bow River riding in Calgary in 2014, but was forced to withdraw from the race due to health issues.
