LOS ANGELES (CelebrityAccess) – Silk Sonic, Kendrick Lamar, and Tems were the top winners at the 2022 Black Entertainment Television (BET) Awards, which took place Sunday (June 26) at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.

Leading up to Sunday’s award show, Doja Cat was the leading nominee with six, followed by Drake and Ari Lennox with four each but all three were collectively shut out.

Lamar won Best Male Hip-Hop Artist for a record-setting fifth time. He also took home Video of the Year for Family Ties, a collaboration with his cousin, Baby Keem.

Silk Sonic took home Album of the Year for An Evening with Silk Sonic and Best Group for the second year in a row. Half of that duo, Anderson .Paak was named Video Director of the Year.

Nigerian-born Tems took Best International Act and Best Collaboration for Wizkid‘s Essence alongside Justin Bieber.

There were numerous first-time winners including Jasmine Sullivan with Best Female R&B/Pop Artist, Best Male R&B/Pop Artist for The Weeknd, and Best Actress for Zendaya.

Latto became the second female rapper to win the BET Award for Best New Artist. Nicki Minaj won in 2010 and went on to win a Grammy for New Best Artist.

Megan Thee Stallion took home Best Female Hip-Hop Artist for the third year in a row, the longest streak since Minaj won seven years straight (2010 – 2016).

Other notable awards went to Mary J. Blige who won the Her Award for Good Morning Gorgeous. The only trwo=time winner in that category besides Beyonce.


Kirk Franklin and Lil Baby won the Dr. Bobby Jones Best Gospel/Inspirational Award for We Win. Lil Baby is the only artist to ever win a hip-hop and gospel award and Franklin extends his record-breaking streak to six wins in the category.

Zendaya won Best Actress for her performances on Euphoria and in the box-office smash Spider-Man: No Way Home. Zendaya, 25, is the youngest winner in the category since Jennifer Hudson,
