DALLAS (CelebrityAccess) — A popular Texas singer was shot on Saturday was injured in a shooting after a performance at The Black Academy of Arts and Letters (TBAAL) in downtown Dallas.
According to the Dallas Observer, 26-year-old singer Jada Arnell Thomas was signing autographs following a matinee performance of a theatrical event at TBAAL when she was allegedly shot by 26-year-old Micah Williams.
Thomas was transported to an area medical facility where she was treated for a gunshot wound to the chest and is recovering, according to the Observer.
William was arrested and is facing a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon according to Dallas County records.
Police did not provide any information about a motive for the attack, but said Williams was suffered a mental health episode when the shooting occurred.
In a subsequent statement, Curtis King, a spokesperson for TBAAL, said: “For 48 years, TBAAL has proudly maintained a tradition of safe, family-oriented events and a welcoming environment. Our audiences are made up of responsible citizens, upstanding members of the community, and ardent supporters who trust us to provide a secure space to enjoy the arts. The statement went on to note that in the wake of the incident, TBAAL will implement new security measures, including expanded guest screening, a reduced number of entry points and a renewed focus on preventing prohibited items, including weapons, from being brought into the venue.
