MANNHEIM, Germany (CelebrityAccess) – Organizers for the Maifeld Derby, a long-running music festival that takes place in Mannheim in Southwestern Germany, announced that 2025 will be the final year for the event.
In announcing the decision to end the festival’s run, organizers cited rising costs and a lack of local political support for the event.
In a translated statement announcing the decision, organizers for the fest said: “With the 14th edition, the Maifeld Derby, as the reigning “Best Small Festival in Europe”, will say goodbye to the UNESCO City of Music Mannheim and enjoy its retirement. It was an exciting and inspiring time, but also a very self-sacrificing one. In recent years in particular, the financial obstacle in particular has become ever larger and more insurmountable. Unfortunately, politicians are currently unable to offer any relief that could get us beyond 2025. Therefore, the exit is now inevitable.:”
The fest debuted in 2011 as a 2-day event, expanding to three full days of music in 2013 and was lauded as the second best festival in Germany by the German culture and entertainment magazine Intro in 2016
The final edition of the fest will take place from May 30 to June 1st with more than 60 artists performing across four stages at the riding stadium of Mannheim May Market.
