BERLIN (CelebrityAccess) — Germany’s Federal Foundation Livekultur revealed a proposal a new fund that will help to support the nation’s grassroots, independent music venues.

The initiative, which is similar to a measure that is currently being considered in the UK, would impose a voluntary fee on tickets which would be used to fund support small for concerts in smaller venues, first tours for newcomers and festivals.

Livekultur noted that independent venue operators are facing a moment of crisis amid “dramatic” increases in costs in all key areas of the industry, such as energy and production costs.

According to Livekultur, while the measure is similar to the proposed levy in the UK, the organization has been working on the details of the initiative for several years and is currently in “constructive talks” with ticket companies, event organizers and music associations over ways to strengthen the industry.

“The Live Music Fund Germany is intended to offer more than just support – it is a statement for the future of cultural diversity and an investment in our vibrant music scene. We are delighted about the international example from Great Britain and see it as an incentive to continue to push forward with our own solution ,” says Felix Grädler, Chairman of the Federal Foundation Livekultur . “We would therefore like to invite all players in the German music industry who have not yet been in discussion with us to sit down with us and work on a common, sustainable solution in order to continue to offer talents and fans inspiring live experiences,” adds Karsten Schölermann, Chairman of the Federal Foundation Livekultur.

The Federal Livekultur Foundation was established in 2021 amid the industry-wide disruptions of the coronavirus pandemic and was made possible by a donation and with funding from LiveKomm.
