American Fleadh To Showcase Irish Artists

Black 47, Eileen Ivers and Immigrant Soul, Hothouse Flowers, The Saw Doctors, Floggin' Molly, and the
Prodigals will be touring under the American Fleadh banner in June and July, when they make
stops at several amphitheaters this summer. Not every artist will perform at each date.

American Fleadh, the brainchild of Black 47's Larry Kirwan, should not be confused with the Guinness Fleadh tour, last staged in 1999, that combined Irish acts and top rock and pop artists on multiple stages. American Fleadh will also feature a literary tent featuring well known Irish and Irish-American authors as well as various dance troupes in the different cities.

"Last Memorial Day the Saw Doctors and Black 47 played a double-header at the big Chicago Gaelic Park Festival," says Kirwin. "When the Docs finished, about half of the audience of 6,000 left the tent and went to the bars; by the time Black 47 came on, the tent had filled to capacity again. Then it hit me, what if you got four or five bands with avid followings, and something in common, and put them on tour. You'd have a hell of a festival. That's the philosophy of the American Fleadh."

Additional dates are expected in New York, Philadelphia and Buffalo.
