Amusement Business Ends Publication

(CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — Trade publication Amusement Business printed its last issue this month, after closing down it’s Nashville, Tennessee, offices about three weeks ago.

Parent company VNU also owns Nielsen Media Research, and publishes Billboard and Adweek magazines. The Dutch company was recently purchased by a consortium of investors for $9.7 billion.

AB traces it’s routes back to 1894, when it began publishing as Billboard Advertising. The magazine was a staple for those in the fairs, theme parks and other outdoor entertainment fields. It was best known for printing yearly attendance figures for national theme parks.

“Industry consolidation in the core festival, fair, carnival and theme park markets continued to put the brand in a challenged position over the last several years,” said Tony Uphoff, president of the film & performing arts group at VNU Business Media, in a statement.

VNU had reportedly been looking to sell the magazine, but wasn’t happy with any offers. There is no word on changes with any other VNU holdings. –by CelebrityAccess Staff Writers
