imeem Joins Google's Open Social

SAN MATEO, CA (Hypebot) –

During the Google Open Social Summit today at the Googlex, imeem is announcing support for OpenSocial via their Media Platform for a third party developers. With the addition of imeem, OpenSocial now reaches a potential 300 million users via MySpace, Friendster and other social networking sites that have joined the initiative.

Developers can now port existing OpenSocial applications to imeem, the third largest social networking site in the US with over 24 million users. They can also extend the capabilities…

of those applications with imeem-specific OpenSocial extensions, which allow developers to access media metadata from JavaScript. This means that developers build JavaScript, HTML and Adobe Flex media applications that access imeem’s catalog of music, video, and photo content.

The imeem Media Platform first launched March 24, 2008.

The details of what imeem is releasing today:

  • Full support for the core OpenSocial JavaScript APIs, including access to people and relationships on imeem as well as access to data persistence APIs
  • Added support for the OpenSocial gadget xml, making it easy for developers to specify their entire application in the OpenSocial gadget xml standard
  • imeem-specific OpenSocial extensions, making it possible for developers to access imeem’s media metadata through the OpenSocial JavaScript APIs. This includes the ability to get back a specific user’s media, search for media in imeem’s vast media library, as well as get access to music, video, and photo content on imeem.
