John Hartford Dies At 63

Bluegrass singer/songwriter, three-time Grammy winner and licensed riverboat captain John Hartford died June 4 at Centennial Medical Center in Nashville after a long battle with cancer. He was 63.

Hartford penned the ballad "Gentle on My Mind," which earned him two Grammys. The song was made into a hit by Glenn Campbell in 1967. Early in his career, Hartford wrote and performed on "The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour" and was a cast member of "The Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour.''

Hartford was managed and booked by Keith Case.
