DIGITAL RADIO (Hypebot) – A new technology that attaches 50 digital channels to an existing FM radio signal could bring an unprecedented level of diversity to the broadcast dial. Ludwig Enterprises says the technology will allow it to acquire the rights to currently issued FM spectrum with minimal regulatory requirements and hit the airwaves in the top 50 markets.
Ludwig's plan is for a…
subscriber based radio service that plans on serving ethnic markets as well as under-served niches with offerings like an opera channel, educational channel, a meditation channel and more.
Ludwig will provide specialized programming content over a network to fifty markets. Thus, no one market has to have a large number of subscribers and the cost of programming can be spread over all fifty.
The potential for broadcast diversity would seem almost endless with this new technology. But will it still have value when wireless internet become ubiquitous and the world becomes your free radio dial?
