Maine Promoter Charged With Domestic Assault

PORTLAND, MAINE (CelebrityAccess) — A Maine concert promoter has been charged by authorities in Portland with misdemeanor domestic violence assault.

According to the Portland Press Herald, Police say the incident took place on March 12 when Alexander Gray allegedly demanded to see his girlfriend's cell phone at their shared condo in Portland.

Police reports then state that when she refused and attempted to leave the condo, Gray allegedly knocked her over, briefly choked her and repeatedly hit her head against the floor, the Portland Press said.

The alleged victim, who was not named, was later transported to Maine Medical Center for evaluation and treatment where she reported the incident to police.

Portland police initially charged Gray with aggravated assault, a felony under Maine law, however since then, the Cumberland County District Attorney’s Office downgraded the charge to domestic violence assault, which is a misdemeanor. There was no explanation for the change in charges, the Press Herald reported.

Gray founded Waterfront Concerts in 2010. The promoter holds summer concerts at Darling's Waterfront Pavilion in Bangor and at the Maine State Pier in Portland.

Gray declined to comment to the Portland Press on the matter. – Staff Writers
