MSG Celebrates, Honors Elton John

NEW YORK (CelebrityAccess MediaWire)– To celebrate Elton John's record-setting 60th performance at Madison Square Garden on March 25, the same day he celebrates his 60th birthday, the Garden will hoist a banner marking “Most Performances by a Single Artist” at Madison Square Garden to the rafters and placed within the arena's Music Hall of Fame.

“There are very few artists that could even think of setting a record like this, let alone achieve it,” said Jay Marciano, president, Madison Square Garden Entertainment. “Elton not only continually challenges himself, but has set the pace and raised the bar for all of the young artists that are coming up in the music industry today. It is an honor to be able to celebrate one such moment, as we commemorate Elton John for 60 unforgettable performances.”

The Grateful Dead previously held the record for most number of performances before John broke it in October 2001; the Dead had performed 52 times.

John's March 25 concert will be recorded and broadcast in the United States on MyNetworkTV. The two-hour special will air on April 5 and feature the concert and celebrity interviews. Two days after later, John will release Rocket Man – Number Ones, which will feature 12 of Elton’s platinum or gold hits and more.

The concert will also be streamed live on the Internet via a collaboration between MSN and Control Room Media at music.msn.com — Jane Cohen and Bob Grossweiner
