LONDON (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — MTV Europe has announced the list of nominees for the upcoming MTV European Music Awards and Justin Timberlake has topped the list with 4 nods.
Timberlake picked up noms in solo artist, ultimate urban, video performer and headliner.
Following close on his heels with three nominations is the Brit songstress Amy Winehouse, who's hit "Rehab," seems to have been an portentous omen. Winehouse has been nominated for best album, best UK/Irish act and perhaps most cruelly, most addictive track.
While the nominee list does have a single category with 18 up-and-coming European artists, the list of nominees on the whole seems fairly predictable and insular. If you exclude the one category of up-and-coming artists, the list comprises 48 nominations but only 25 different artists, with nine getting three nominations each. With the proliferation of music that is occurring, one wonders why MTVE draws from such a shallow pool of artists. Perhaps this myopic view explains why the MTV's flagship channel ratings are off by about 25% from last year. – CelebrityAccess Staff Writers
