Police Kill Man At Reno Festival


RENO, NV (CelebrityAccess) — Officials have identified a man killed by police officers after he allegedly attempted to drive a car into a pedestrian filled festival in downtown Reno on Sunday.

According to the Reno Gazette-Journal, Raul Saavedra-Vargas was identified on Tuesday by the Washoe County Medical Examiner's office.

Saavedra-Vargas was killed on Sunday after police attempted to effect a traffic stop and he allegedly drove towards Virginia Street, which was closed to vehicular traffic for the Biggest Little City Wing Fest, staged by Silver Legacy Resort Casino.

"As the minivan approached Virginia Street from East Plaza, a Reno Police Officer, who was on foot in the area, fired on the vehicle. The minivan turned on to the 300 block of North Virginia Street where it came to a stop," a press release from the Washoe County Sheriff's Office said.

Saavedra-Vargas was pronounced dead at Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno, but no other injuries were reported. – Staff Writers
