(Hypebot) – Apple Music launched with an undeniable advantage. More than 55 million U.S. households have at least one iPhone, iPad, iPod or Mac, and millions more use iTunes on a PC. So if even a fraction those users signed up, Apple Music would be a strong competitor. But would they like Apple Music enough to continue to pay?
User experience testing by TryMyUI and published by Hypebot suggest that Apple Music is not guaranteed to beat Spotify, Tidal and other services. But what do actual users think?
9to5Mac has been polling its readers, and while admittedly most are Apple fans, the answers from more than 17,400 respondents spell trouble for Spotify and its competitors.
Of the 17,431 respondents as of mid-day on July 20th, only 17% (2929) said they would stop using Apple Music when their free trial was over.
Where did all of these users come from?
That the mighty Apple is only attracting 19% from people new streaming may be a disappointment to the industry. But these are early days, and if harming Spotify was the goal, Apple Music is well on its way to doing that.
