BRYON BAY, Australia (CelebrityAccess) — Australian-born guitarist, singer and poet Daevid Allen, the former frontman and founding member of psychedelic rock groups Soft Machine and Gong, has died. He was 77 at the time of his passing.
Allen recently revealed that he had skin cancer that had spread to his lungs and that he had decided to forgo further treatment.
"The cancer is now so well established that I have now been given approximately six months to live. So My view has Changed: I am not interested in endless surgical operations and in fact it has come as a relief to know that the end is in sight," Allen wrote in a post on Gong's website last month.
Mr. Allen’s survivors include four sons.
