(CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — Rumors have proven true that veteran alternative rockers Smashing Pumpkins are writing material for their first studio album in 6 years, since 2000’s MACHINA/The Machines of God.
In a message on the band’s website, frontman Billy Corgan said the group will begin recording this summer, but has not set a release date for the new album.
It is still unclear whether Corgan and drummer Jimmy Chamberlin are working with either of the other original members, guitarist James Iha and bassist D’Arcy Wretzky.
Corgan stunned fans last summer, when he took out full-page ads in the Chicago Tribune and Sun-Times announcing his intentions to “renew” and “revive” the Pumpkins, who split acrimoniously following the 2000 release. Corgan first broke the silence about why the band had split in 2004, lashing out at Iha and Wretzky for walking away from an endeavor he described as “essentially my entire life… a dream I still believe in,” according to Billboard. –by CelebrityAccess Staff Writers
