COPPELL, TX (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — The International Association of Assembly Managers completed their meeting at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, CA, July 25-29, 2008. Robyn Williams, CFE, Executive Director, Portland Center for the Performing Arts, Portland, Oregon was inaugurated as the President of the association during the conference.
“I am thrilled to serve as this year’s president for the association. I look forward to a year full of opportunity and growth. This year is all about the members and I look forward to working for them and with them,” said Williams.
In lieu of a presidential theme, Williams chose instead to focus on “making it all about you!” This will include using several ideas from the members throughout the year.
“There were so many great ideas that I heard for my theme that I couldn’t choose just one,” Williams said. “So I chose to steal them and use them all! This year I hope that the members will contact me with ideas so that I can present several facets of facility management throughout my term.”
In addition, Williams would like to focus on key areas this year including, sustainability,
research, education, chapter meetings and Foundation support. The Sustainability Task Force will become a permanent committee, the Body of Knowledge is being renamed The Venue Research Institute as it focuses on creating a global industry knowledge base. Williams is also focusing on distance learning, which will be a top priority to reach those that may not be able to travel to meetings, and in an effort to provide educational programming to staff members that are not able to travel to all meetings, developing chapter meetings will be important. Foundation support is also a top priority and Williams even mentioned hosting a Gala to benefit the Foundation at next year’s 84th Annual Conference & Trade Show in Boston, MA.
Other officer elections for the upcoming year also occurred in Anaheim. Shura Lindgren, CFE, General Manager, Global Spectrum/St. Charles Convention Center, St. Charles, MO was voted in by the membership as First Vice President and John Siehl, CFE, Executive Director, Ervin J Nutter Center, Wright State University, Dayton, OH was elected as Second Vice President. –by CelebrityAccess Staff Writers
