Tommy Mottola plans to "overhaul" Sony Music, and part of that plan involves going into the artist management business, he said in a recent New York Times profile.
This is hardly a new line of work for Mottola, who was a principal of New York-based Champion Entertainment before joining Sony Music in 1988. Among his clients at Champion were John Mellencamp and Hall & Oates.
"This is the very beginning of a whole strategy to completely transform the company," he told the Times.
