Sully Lands On Top At The Box Office


LOS ANGELES (CelebrityAccess) — Tom Hanks and Warner Bros. had a big weekend at the box office when their torn from the headlines drama 'Sully' took the top spot in the weekend's box office results, compiled by comScore.

Based on real events, the film depicts Hanks cast in the titular role as Capt. Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger who fights to safely land his plane in New York's Hudson River after US Airways Flight 1549 strikes a flock of geese. The film earned a tidy $45 internationally in its debut weekend.

Paramount Picture's sci-fi sequel Star Trek: Beyond held on to the #2 spot, earning an estimated $17.5M and the horror film Don't Breathe held the #3 spot.
