JAKARTA, Indonesia (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — Ten people, mostly teenagers, were killed in a stampede at a rock concert in Indonesia’s Central Java Province, according to Reuters news service.
The crush occurred on Tuesday evening as thousands of fans rushed to leave the stadium at the end of a concert by popular band Ungu in the town of Pekalongan, a police officer said.
“It was too crowded and there were not enough exit doors,” Ngadino, a police office from the district, told Reuters. The town is a little more than 200 miles from Jakarta.
Nine of the dead, including three girls, were teenagers.
Ungu is an up-and-coming rock band with a varied repertoire including many religious songs. Similar deaths from stampedes have happened in recent years at concerts in Indonesia. –by CelebrityAccess Staff Writers
