West Hollywood Approves Development Project At Current HoB Site

LOS ANGELES (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — The West Hollywood City Council voted on Tuesday to approve a developer's plan to build a condo and hotel complex on the site, which currently serves as the home for the House of Blues Sunset Strip outlet.

The iconic venue has been at it's Sunset Strip location for more than 20 years, but if the West Hollywood City Council has it's way, it may be facing a wrecking ball in as little as a year, Los Angeles ABC affiliate KABC reported. Although the city has hinted that demolition could start as early as next year, their agreement with the project's developer leaves them with a ten-year window for the project.

Live Nation however, has indicated that they don't intend on going anywhere. "We have a lease, which with renewal rights, goes through 2025, and we plan on continuing our operations at the venue," Liz Morentin, a spokesperson for Live Nation told KACB.

The Sunset HoB has been a source of local controversy in recent years, with locals often voicing complaints relating to the venue creating excessive noise or traffic in the neighborhood. The city council had considered suspending or revoking the club's business license, but has never moved on that threat.

Other clubs in West Hollywood, such as the Knitting Factory have also closed in recent years, falling victim to the changing complexion of the neighborhood. – CelebrityAccess Staff Writers
