SYDNEY, NSW (CelebrityAccess) — Australian ticketing service Ticketek announced plans to launch the Ticketek Marketplace, a price-capped secondary market service.
The service, which will launch later this month, is billed as a “consumer-led, price-capped and ethical ticket exchange service for fans” with a need to buy and sell on the secondary market.
The service will allow fans who have previously purchased from Ticketek to list their tickets for resale.
Ticket resale prices will be capped at 10% of the face value of the ticket, and when a sale is completed, on Ticketek Marketplace the original barcodes will be cancelled and new barcodes reissued into the name of the new customer to help users avoid scams.
As well, ticket buyers will be able to use their login credentials for Ticketek’s primary ticket sales service for the resale platform.
According to TEG, the new service is compliant with all applicable Commonwealth, state and territorial legislation.
“Many sports and entertainment fans have fallen victim of resale scalping practices based on highly inflated ticket prices, misleading marketing, a lack of transparency and often outright fraud,” said Geoff Jones, CEO of Ticketek corporate parent TEG.
“TEG believes that fans want a secondary ticket marketplace they can trust, where the authenticity of tickets is guaranteed and where the prices are fair. Ticketek Marketplace delivers these requirements to fans,” Jones added.
