R. Kelly Pleads Not Guilty, Bail Set At $1 Million

CHICAGO (CelebrityAccess) — The R&B singer R. Kelly pleaded not guilty on Monday to 10 counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse.

According to the New York Times, Kelly appeared in court wearing an orange prison jumpsuit for arraignment, during which bail was set for $1,00,000.

During the hearing, Kelly’s attorney asked the judge if Kelly would need to pay off child support payments he is in arrears on, or if the $100,000 surety bond would be sufficient. Judge Lawrence E. Flood said Mr. Kelly only needed to pay the bond, the Times reported.

Kelly is accused of sexual abuse of four women, three of which are minors, including one teenage autograph seeker authorities allege Kelly had a sexual relationship for months while she was 16.

Another victim was a girl he met at a restaurant during her sixteenth birthday, prosecutors alleged.

A 24-year-old hairdresser told prosecutors that Kelly attempted to force her to perform oral sex. The alleged victim provided a statement to law enforcement officials, as well as DNA evidence.

As of Monday afternoon, Kelly remained in custody in Cook County, according to the Chicago Tribune. His next court date is set for March 22.
