Google Announces Browser-Based Video Game Service 'Stadia'

SAN FRANCISCO (CelebrityAccess) – Google announced this week that it will be launching a browser-based video game streaming service it has dubbed Stadia.

The technology, which will attempt to capitalize on the company’s cloud technology and global network of data centers, will allow users to play games through their internet browser or YouTube without waiting for content to be downloaded to a device.

While Google has not yet revealed how it will price its technology to consumers or specified any supported titles, the streaming technology certainly offers a fresh way for the tech giant to pitch game publishers.

The question now is whether or not those publishers will be willing to shift from the highly lucrative business of selling games on disc to a streaming-based model. Either way, Google will no doubt be facing stiff competition from rivals including Amazon.com Inc. and Microsoft Corp., when it enters the gaming market later this year.
