LOS ANGELES (CelebrityAccess) — Actress and rapper Awkwafina made history at the 77th Golden Globe Awards on Sunday night when she became the first Asian-American actor to win the Golden Globe for lead actress in a motion picture.

Awkwafina, whose real name is Nora Lum, took home the prize for her portrayal of Billi Wang in director/screenwriter Lulu Wang’s semiautobiographical family tale “The Farewell.”

The harrowing World War 1 epic “1917” took the prize for best dramatic motion picture for 2020, while Sam Mendes, who wrote the script, as well as directed and produced the film, won the Golden Globe for best director.

Quentin Tarantino’s “Once Upon A Time in Hollywood” won the Golden Globe for best comedy or musical motion picture, despite being neither a comedy or a musical.

Tarantino also nabbed the screenplay Golden Globe, besting Martin Scorcese, whose sprawling gangster epic “The Irishman” was snubbed, despite several nominations.

Other notable snubs included the final season of HBO’s long-running epic fantasy series “Game of Thrones” which only landed one nomination (Best Performance For TV for Kit Harrington) and no wins.

Other honors included Tom Hanks, whose long career was recognized with Cecil B. DeMille Award, while pioneering comedian Ellen DeGeneres was presented with the Carol Burnett Award.

The Golden Globes were broadcast live from The Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California, with Ricky Gervais serving as host for the evening.
