LOS ANGELES (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — As reported in CelebrityAccess last month, Denver financier Phil Anschutz appears to have cast his eyes toward the city of Los Angeles with the hopes of expanding his empire there and a report in Media Life magazine lends further credence to this.
According to the report, Anschutz is considering expanding his newspaper business there as well with plans by his company Clarity Media Group underway to launch an edition of free daily newspaper "The Examiner" in LA by the end of the year.
Ownership of a news outlet in the market would be a valuable commodity, providing a convivial voice for any of Anschutz's other business enterprises in the region.
Anschutz, who is well-known for his ownership of sports teams, venues and various forms of entertainment companies has also been pushing into the newspaper industry as well, since 2004 when he acquired the San Francisco Examiner. Since that acquisition, he's turned the paper into a free daily and expanded it into other markets such as Washington D.C. and Baltimore.
