Clear Channel Radio Tries New Festival Format

PALM SPRINGS, CA (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — Clear Channel radio has launched a new, multi-genre format, taking a page from the diverse artist lineup at Coachella, the New York Post has reported.

The new format, known as eRockstar, was launched to coincide with the Coachellafestival, with a "pirate radio" stunt that replaced the normal broadcast on KAJR-FM with playlists of bands derived from the Coachella lineup.

The new format will have a pool of some 5,000 tracks to draw from and range from The Ramones and Dr. Dre to Johnny Cash and Grandmaster Flash.

The format will be primarily focused on terrestrial broadcasts rather than on the net and the station will become Clear Channels second HD Digital channel.

Expect the new format to be on the air full time starting in May. – CelebrityAccess Staff Writers
