LOS ANGELES (CelebrityAccess) — Drake lead this year's nominations for the American Music Awards with 13 nods, more than any artist in the award show's history. Drake picked up noms for Artist of the Year, Favorite Album–Pop/Rock, Favorite Male Artist–Pop/Rock, Favorite Song–Pop/Rock and two different nominations for Favorite Album–Rap/Hip-Hop.
Rihanna came in at a distant second, with seven nominations this year, including for Artist of the Year, Collaboration of the Year and Video of the Year awards.
Both Adele and Justin Bieber picked up 5 noms a piece. The two will compete against each other for Artist of the Year as Bieber seeks his third win in this category, Adele her first. It will also be a 25 versus Purpose battle for Favorite Album–Pop/Rock (also including Drake’s Views) and “Hello” versus “Love Yourself ” for Favorite Song–Pop/Rock (also including Drake’s “One Dance”).
Beyoncé picked up four AMAs nominations, including Artist of the Year and Tour of the Year.
First-time nominees this year include The Chainsmokers, Twenty One Pilots, Future, Chris Stapleton, Shawn Mendes and Alessia Cara.
This year's award show will take place on November 20 at the Microsoft Theater at L.A. Live in Los Angeles.
