Fillmore County Says No To Multi-Day Festival

FILLMORE COUNTY, Minn. (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — Fillmore County Planning Commission has voted to put the kibosh on a proposed multi-day festival by voting to ban large assemblies in the county.

The council decision came during a well-attended March 25th meeting where the commission weighed a proposal by a local promoter, Craig Smith, to stage a three day music festival.

Commission members weighed concerns about public safety and related expenses, waste disposal, overcrowding, traffic and excessive noise, the Spring Valley Tribute reported.

Some of the potential issues raised during the meeting were well beyond the usual litany of festival related concerns, including the potential threat of infection diseases raised by Fillmore County Public Health educator Brenda Pohlman. Pohlman's voluminous list of festival-related risks also included: exposure to heat and cold, dehydration from alcohol consumption, food-borne illnesses, inadequate water quality, "acts of terrorism," epidemic outbreaks and the lack of housing for the sick or injured, or the ability to track down and isolate someone with a communicable disease, drunken brawls and animal bites.

The commission;s ban on public assembly would include the music festival, but exclude religious services and auctions, the Spring Valley Tribute said. – CelebrityAccess Staff Writers
