ORLANDO (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — After taking a bath on the inaugural Orlando Calling last year, perhaps it shouldn't be a surprise that Festival Republic won't be returning for round two this year.
Festival organizers made the decision official via social media on Wednesday when they tweeted: "Orlando Calling will not be happening this year, but we discussing opportunities for 2013 and will keep you updated."
The opening edition of the festival, staged last November at the Citrus Bowl in Orlando, featured a lineup that included Bob Seger, the Killers, Kid Rock, the Pixies, the Raconteurs and Blake Shelton among numerous others, but failed to gain traction with music fans. Festival Republic's Melvin Benn told Orlando’s WFTV-Ch. 9 that by his estimate the 2011 two day festival was "a couple of million plus" in the red.
Festival Republic also pulled the plug on their annual alternative/dance UK festival Big Chill for 2012 as well, the first time since 1997 that the festival will not be staged. – CelebrityAccess Staff Writers
