EPHRATA, Wash (AP) — Grant County commissioners have signed off on proposed zoning changes that bring venue owner Live Nation one step closer to being able to proceed with plans to expand the The Gorge Amphitheatre.
Despite the zoning change, the promoter still needs to obtain approval from the county's planning department.
The Columbia Basin Herald reported that the county commission approved the zoning changes in the face of opposition from the venue's neighbors. Neighbors objected to the venue, claiming that concert-goers routinely trespassed, littered on and vandalized their property. However, despite past opposition, no residents spoke out during the hearing, the Herald said.
Live Nation hopes to build out amenities at The Gorge, adding up to 1,000 camping sites, an outdoor cinema, a cafe, a farmers market and other site improvements such as better roads, sewage and water service. – Staff Writers
