Motown Records is doing its part in artist development. The label is showcasing its up-and-coming artists — Prohet Jones, Sharissa, Remy and Lathun –on a 15-market, small venue tour traveling under the moniker, Motown Lounge Tour, Nov 28-Dec 17.
"I can't replace Berry Gordy, but I can learn from his blueprint,'' states Motown President and CEO, Kedar Massenburg. "The label's philosophy today is back to the basics, that being artistic integrity. The agenda isn't about putting out 20 records and only work the hits. It is to put out only records that we truly believe are hits.''
Michael Johnson, Motown's senior vice president of promotions and marketing, further explains, "The Motown Lounge Tour allows us to begin developing fans for artists that we feel will play a big role in the continued growth of Motown. It is an exciting time for us, thanks to the recent successes of Erykah Badu, India.Arie, and most recently Brian McKnight. The foundation has been laid and we see Lathun, Sharissa, Prophet Jones, and Remy building the future.''
