Star Trek Beyond Debuts At #1 For Weekend Box Office


LOS ANGELES, (CelebrityAccess) — Paramount's Star Trek Beyond boldly went where the franchise has gone before, to the top of the weekend's box office results.

Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto reprise their roles as Captain Kirk and Mr. Spock for the science fiction adventure sequel, which earned $59.6M domestically for Paramount on its opening weekend, and $89.6M worldwide, according to estimates published by comScore.

The Secret Life of Pets showed some staying power, holding on to number two in its third week in the cinemas. The animated comedy from Universal earned 29.3m million domestically.

Warner's horror film Lights Out came in at #3. Actors Gabriel Bateman and Teresa Palmer's battle with the things that lurk in the dark proved enough of a box office draw to earn $21.6M for Warners in its first week out of the gate.
