SYDNEY, Australia (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — The Great Escape festival that had been in the works in Sydney, Australia for the first weekend in October has been canceled with promoters citing unexpectedly low ticket sales as the reason.
In a posting on the fest's website, organizers wrote: "Unexpectedly low ticket sales have left festival organisers with no option but to cancel the event. We’d like to take this opportunity to thank all those people that have made the festival such a success in previous years. We’d also like to wholeheartedly apologies to the bands, artists, agents, managers, suppliers, sponsors, media supporters and festival goers that have been let down by our decision. We thank you in advance for your understanding."
The lineup for the event included: Black Francis, Blue King Brown, British India, C.W. Stoneking, Cassette Kids, Conor Oberst & The Mystic Valley Band, Firekites, Jackson Jackson, Joan As Policewoman, John Steel Singers, Ladytron and a host of others. This would have been the third year for the festival, which was originally staged in 2006. In previous years, the event had been held over a 2 weekend span in April.
Full refunds are being made available for ticket-holders at the point of purchase.
