Syndicated Radio Host Doug Banks Dies Suddenly


CHICAGO (CelebrityAccess) — Longtime Chicago radio personality Doug Banks, has died suddenly. He was 57.

News of Banks' death was first announced by radio station V103 via their Facebook and Twitter feeds. "It is with a heavy heart we share the news Doug Banks has passed away. Our thoughts & prayers are with his family & friends at this time," a spokesperson for the station said in the post.

While no cause of death was officially announced, Chicago's ABC affiliate ABC7 reported that his death was due to complications from diabetes.

A native of Philadelphia, Banks was raised in Detroit and got his first taste of radio broadcasting at his high school radio station, then moving on to work at commercial stations in Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Oakland before eventually making his way to Chicago, according to the bio on his radio station's website.

For 16 years, he hosted a nationally syndicated radio show which was one of the top-rated urban programs in the US, until 1997. In 2008, he launched a new show on V103, moving it to American Urban Networks in 2010. – Staff Writers
