SHANGHAI (CelebrityAccess) — Opening day tickets the opening day of Disney's newest theme park expansion Shanghai Disney, sold out in just 5 minutes after going on sale.
Tickets for the new theme park, which opens on June 16th, cost 499 yuan for peak periods (approximately $77 dollars) and 370 yuan (about $57 dollars) for off-peak periods. According to Bloomberg, tickets for the June 17th and 18th at the park have also sold out, but tickets for the rest of the season, which extends to September 30th are still available.
The 960-acre theme park, which cost an estimated $5.5 billion to build, is the sixth expansion of the theme park brand for Disney. The park is the largest in any Asian market, approximately double the size of Disney's Tokyo park and three times larger than the resort in Hong Kong.
“It’s the biggest park we’ve ever opened on opening day,” CEO Bob Iger told investors during a Deutsche Bank media conference earlier this month. – Staff Writers
