LUBBOCK, TX (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — KCBD has reported that a break-in has put all productions at the Wells Fargo Amphitheatre at Mackenzie Park in jeopardy. Vandals broke windows, damaged fences and stole nearly $20,000 worth of equipment.
They took almost all of the wireless audio equipment. It's stored in a concrete closet down on the stage, and Lubbock Moonlight Musicals Director, Gerald Dolter, thinks the thieves may have loaded it into a vehicle near the parking lot at the top of the amphitheater hill. The fence there is damaged and bent over.
News of the break-in angered some of the actors, but it brought Dolter to tears.
"Somehow we're going to get through this," Dolter said.
The opening of the Wells Fargo Amphitheatre was a dream come true for Lubbock Moonlight Musicals and their Director Gerald Dolter. He couldn't hold back the tears Tuesday afternoon as he looked over the theatre.
"I'm sorry… I'm sorry, I've just poured my heart and soul into this. It's hard," Dolter said.
Tuesday morning, Dolter found out someone broke into the amphitheatre and stole nearly $20,000 worth of audio equipment.
"It's stuff that can't be used in anyone's home. It's strictly for theatrical productions," Dolter said.
Last summer folks camped out at the theatre to protect the equipment.
"Volunteers from our cast that would stay awake all night out here," Dolter said.
"This summer we didn't think we had to. We thought we would be safe and that all of our stuff would be respected," Fruge said.
"I'm willing to go for it, sound equipment or not. I'll just belt and yell my lines out," Fruge said.
"We need help now," Dolter said.
Lubbock Moonlight Musicals doesn't have the money to replace all of the stolen equipment. So, they're asking for your help.
