MIAMI (CelebrityAccess) – Miami’s South Beach may be home to a new multi-format music festival that organizers hope will attract 30,000 people a day during the weekend following Art Basel.
According to the Miami Herald, the new event dubbed the “Miami Beach Pop Festival”, would be a three-day event set for the weekend of Dec. 14-16 on the beach between Fifth and 10th streets with headliners in the vein of Justin Timberlake, Bruno Mars, and Jimmy Buffett.
The team hoping to produce the new festival includes Steve Sybesma and Paul Peck, who co-founded the Okeechobee Music & Arts Festival. Both are veterans of the music industry, — Sybesma has four decades of experience in entertainment marketing and promotion, while Peck has 12 years of experience, including stints at Bonnaroo.
The two approached Beach-based ACT Productions to develop a proposal for Miami Beach Pop and have since pitched it to the City of Miami, which is currently evaluating the concept of the festival.
The Miami Herald reported that the City is seeking public comment about the event, and is sensitive to concerns from local residents about aging such a festival on public land in the city, as well as the traffic congestion, noise, and litter that such an event can inflict on a dense urban environment.
“The direction from that committee [of city commissioners] was to work through a community outreach process to solicit feedback, again due to the significant impact of the event,” Eva Silverstein, director for the city’s tourism, culture and economic development department told the Herald.
